Education Outside The Classroom

As part of the Year 10 programme students will be participating in four days of Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC). The focus of this programme is one of citizenship and social awareness.


The four days of activities in which your son/daughter will participate are as follows: Community Service, Ferg’s Kayaks Course, Laser Paintball and H2O Xtream, Mount KauKau Walk.

Community Service

Students will complete one day of community service assisting local residents and businesses. This will usually occur within walking distance of Tawa College for all Year 10 students. This day has the key focus of citizenship and has been a great success in previous years.

Laser Paintball and H2O Extreme
Laser Paintball and H2O Extreme

Thunderball Paintball & H2O Xtream

Students will need to work together in a team using strategy and providing leadership opportunities to outwit their opposition in a few games of Thunderball Paintball. After this fun and action packed morning students will enjoy the fantastic facilities of H2O Xtream with full access to all of their rides. A key focus of this day will be on of reflection and perceptions of life in New Zealand and how this compares to other nations.

Days Bay – Kayaking and Cycling

Students will travel via Bus to Days Bay in Eastbourne. Each student will take part in Kayaking and Mountain Biking. The goal is that students will work with their peers to meet their goals, develop new skills and perhaps conquer any fears they may have. This is a great opportunity to develop friendships and help each other. Students will be expected to behave in a positive manner towards everyone.

Mount Kaukau Walk

A full day trip starting at Kaiwharawhara train station walking along part of Wellingtons Northern Walkway all the way to the top of Mount KauKau before dropping down to Khandallah Park. Along the way students will experience a part of Wellington that few people realise exist hopefully helping them create a more holistic perception of the Wellington environment.
